Music is an important part of my cultural identity as a Malagasy. At the age of eleven I began to experiment with a variety of musical instruments, both traditional and non-traditional, in my homeland of Madagascar. I now play a variety of musical instruments, mostly acoustic guitar, but also dabble in electric guitar, keyboard, flute, harmonica, and Malagasy percussion. My greatest enjoyment is to compose melodies and to sing in complex vocal harmonies.
My musical compositions have been influenced by the traditional music of the Malagasy of African descent, and of Austronesian / Polynesian descent. My music therefore depicts a unique combination of African-Polynesian blends, mixed with influences from some of my favourite folk singers such as Mahaleo, Stan Rogers, Leonard Cohen, George Moustaki, Yves Duteil, Maxime Le Forestier, Yusuf Islam (formerly known as Cat Stevens), James Taylor, Roger Whittaker and Simon and Garfunkel.
As an advocate of Universal Peace, my ultimate goal is to contribute, through music and education, to the betterment of humanity. I have written a few of my own lyrics, but for the most part have chosen to sing the Baha'i Holy Writings and Prayers in diverse languages and melodies with deepest wishes to inspire the hearts.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to perform for diverse gatherings locally and internationally, to name a few: Pan African Peace Concert "Peace for Africa" ( Nairobi, Kenya) , various coffee-houses in the Yukon and Victoria, BC, Black History concerts and multicultural community events in Ottawa, Ontario, and Baha'i Feasts and Holy Days in a number of Canadian cities and towns.
